21 Aug 09 Nokia 6303 Review

Have you ever imagined if cadbaurys or nestle could design a chocolate or candy bar with which you can talk, play, sing and message. Wondering how can you do all this with a candy bar, it is possible, Nokia has successfully launched the 6303, an absolute candy bar model that comes out in two flavours black matte and silver.

gsmarena_023Before we start unpacking the complete package that has been bundled together to form the 6303, the readers are informed that 6303 is not a 3G phone, also. The best point to start with would be right from outside, I mean the box inside which the device is given. A pale yellow filled with white and gives the user a small hint that hte phone is as soft  anfd tender to handle like the flowers that speak yellow. The complete kit consists of device, charger, USB cable, and headphones.

Design and Structure gsmarena_024 The phone looks really simple and a different welcoming note can be observed along with the brand naming in the front, which is the ear piece and right after it stands the ambient light sensor  In terms of t rendering, quality and contrast, QVGA screen can display up to 16M colors on a 2.2″ diagonal.                                                                                                                                                        Below the display stands the two main soft keys, call and end buttons. All controls are good to use and rare chances of mispressess occuring.  The ‘*’ and ‘#’ key have slightly been compromised in their size to fit the keypad style and posture in the phone.  The display backlighting and the blue keypad illumination are very strong and even make the handset a pleasure to use in the dark.

The top of the phone is rather bare just housing the Power button. whereas the left is completely vaccant and the right has got the privilige for givving space for volume rocker buttons.  The bottom as usual hosts the provision for the charger and the USB port.  And lets end the description about the physical design of the phone with back metallic, scratch-guard, which is protective case ofr the camera lens.

Symbian S40 and User Interface gsmarena_007 T    The display comes with a preselected wallpaper and usual status readings, such as signal strength, battery status, ringing profile icon and time occupying the top bar. The centre of the navigation ket handles the menu, while the other keys can be customized as per the users wish and usage. One new feature that has been implemented on the device is that even when the phone is locked, pressing the “End” key for a while pops the display with time and date.

The icons are all already 3D animated and are highly responsive. Another new feature in the phone is that there are six default profiles available and each can be set with a particular expiry time after which the phone automatically returns to the normal or previous profile mode. The only feature that happens to be missing on this edition happens to be the capability tp handle multi-tasking the Sony Erricson.

What’s New about the phone ???

The implementation of the browser happens to be the biggest vitally noticed difference. Yet another development or enhancement is the compatabiility in java code, which reduces the burden on the develpers for designing new applications. The Flash Lite player has been updated to version 3 and Flash Lite can also be reused as  ‘Organic’ wallpaper.

A complete phone To start with the phone has a capability to store 2000 contacts. . Each field can be assigned with 5 different numbers, naming conventions all strictly followed. You can also assign photos and pictures to the contacts, create groups and assign each user in the contact a different ringtone.

Crystal Clear Telephony Like the usual way of calling this is the voice clarity, it has been greatly improved during the mid ranges of S40, and the background noise suppression during calls have been greatly improvised. During te usual usual loud speaker test that Nokia carried out to find the sound quality of 6303

Voice, dB    Pink noise/ Music, dB    Ringing phone, dB    Overall score
67.9            65.3                                              72.3 Average

Photo GALLERY The Gallery part of implementation of the OS is yet another disappointment. The gallery can be viewed in three ways : list with details, list and grid.. Once a picture has been chosen the same can be viewed, edited and all other actions are made possible. Pictures can be viewed in full screen too. But one piece of advice for the users can be not to experiment any kind of editing work of the photos over the phone.

Music Player and Audio quality With no doubt the music player is one of the best applications that is available to the users for using. With fair number of formats, descent looks supporting album art, the theme of the music player is set to match the phones theme. The player works with AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, MP4, WMA, AMR-NB.There are 5 equlaizers available and can be tuned as per the listeners wish.On performing a audio quality test, the results were

Frequency response    Noise level    Dynamic range    THD    IMD + Noise    Stereo crosstalk
+0.27, -0.08            -75.9            75.9           0.0075     0.042             -71.7
