Nokia Surge 6790 Review
DESIGN
Measuring just 3.8 inches tall by 2.2 inches wide by 0.6 inch thick and 4.3 ounces, the phone gives you a complete feel of holding a small transistor after the exposure to all the ‘E’ and ‘N’ series. Though not much about the design was clear to the market before its launch after simply holding it and experiencing the feel, the device really makes us think great. But one sick thing about the phone is the fact that it has been completely molded I plastic, and the battery cover creaks at the slightest amount of pressure.
When you look at the phone the firs capturing thing is the 2.4’’ display, with 16 million color, clear, bright and reminds us more of a basic model design rather than a smart-phone. Since the screen is comparatively small, there is more scrilling that is involved in viewing videos in their best form. The phone is best viewed in landscape position, rather than the horizontal usual style. Accelerometer is quick and the change in the position was identified within short response time.
Though the fact about the keys is a little disappointing, we can feel happy about the fact that the phone comes with a support for QWERTY keyboard. On the top of the phone you will find the 2.5mm jackpoint, power connector. The USB port is capped, providing a safety measure, which can be appreciated. Following the traditional way, there’s a volume rocker and camera activation/capture key on the right.
FEATURES
The small size of the phone has absolutely got nothing with determining the features and capability of the phone. The device is completely run on a Symbian 60 OS, which is truly an outdated OS, but at the same time the phone is capable of synchronizing with Microsoft Exchange for email accounts like gmail, yahoo and a many more famous mail identifiers. The phone has an inbuilt office documents and supports a wide range of applications like PDF reader, voice recorder, and calendar among other things. Though all this might give us a small hint that the phone is business class phone, the device is an End-to-End “socially supercharged smartphone”.
The phone comes with a pre-loaded application, “JuiceCaster” Instant access to most of the famous social networking sites Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Flickr or JuiceCaster’s own network, with which the users can post messages, upload photos, videos, etc. To upload photos there are two ways, one where you can grab the photos that are by default available in the internal memory or the users can capture live photos with the help of the available, 2 Megapixel camera.
CAMERA
Moving a little away from the social networking angle the phone has a few other supportive features like the Surge offers quad-band world roaming, a speakerphone, speed dialing, three-way calling, conference calling, voice commands, and text and multimedia messaging. The address book is limited to store only 250 contacts. The phones potential 3G capability makes it possible to use the streaming videos facilities like AT&T Music and AT&T Video. The phone comes in with an built-in media player which supports a range of video formats like AAC, AAC+ v1, AAC+ v2, WAV, MP3, WMA 9, and RealAudio10 files), FM and XM radios, and a handful of games.
