Samsung S3653 / S3650 Corby Review
It’s very important for the mobile owners to keep their buyers entertained and thrilled about every new launch. People expect change in everything and when it comes to mobile the first question that arises in their mind is “How is this one different from that?”, “Why should I go for it?”……. a step that Samsung has taken higher to keep raising the future users is “S3650 Corby”.
S3650 Corby is mainly targeted for the young audience who are mostly into social networking, customizations. Everything is new in Corby, its shape, borders, colors and all these qualities also make it unfit for use by the adults. It is indeed a big challenge that Samsung has taken in choosing its paint colors. But before we go more in depth, let me pull out the Cons over Corby, so that if you’re looking for any of the features missing, then I guess this is not one of your kinds.
- No 3G
- The camera has no autofocus or flash
- No accelerometer for screen auto rotation
- No on-screen QWERTY keyboard
- Proprietary connectivity port
- No smart dialing
Design
The phone is made of plastic especially the back side, which helps keep the
phone size less. The front panel is completely glossy which has a resistive shield protecting the touch screen and at the same time it is also prone to scratches. The phone is of course sleek and slim compared to its competitors make. The oval shaped back helps us handle the phone easily and gives us a good grip.
The 2.8’’ display occupies the centre of the front panel; in fact there is nothing more than this in the front, except for two buttons. The touchscreen is built on capacitive technology, which means even smallest touch can be easily recognized and can do lot of magic stuff. The display is totally below acceptance level compared to 5800 and other models, when exposed to sunlight.
There are two keys underneath the display, the call connect and disconnect and a mouth piece right under these keys. Above the display is the earpiece plug, the right side houses two keys shutter and hold (to lock and unlock the phone). The left side houses the volume rocker, connectivity port for USB, charger, and earphone. The top and bottom has nothing. The camera lens and the loud speaker are as usual placed at the back. Also the back panel is called the “Fashion Jacket”, probably for its flashy colors. Along with the pack comes 2 more panel cover, which the user can use at their convenience.
Touch WIZ
Corby comes with a very different home screen panes that allow you to alternate by sideway sweeps. You can fill up the home screen with applications of your choice. All these widgets are placed in the bottom of the screen and you can pull it as per your usage and need. The accelerometer based option helps you orient the screen by a gentle shake, after which the handset is at your disposal. At every screen there are three keys, which are placed based on the chosen option and allow you to navigate quickly.
Corby is multitasking phone, which means that you can open a java application, keep running it in background and also keep using some other application, but, there is a small bitterness about multitasking here. There is no hardware key to allow you to switch between the apps, which certainly makes multitasking much less of a treat.
The dialer is not that very attractive and very different. Instead, there is yet another feature that makes calling and messaging little interesting. The photo contacts are shown as a stack of pictures and a gentle tap gives you an option to connect a voice call or messaging.
Messaging is yet other feature, which can be really well exploited in this phone. SMS and MMS are as usual supported. QWERTY keyboard isn’t available in landscape mode. The native email client for some reason is unable to configure G-Mail settings automatically and we have to configure it manually. Social Networking wasn’t of big interest to us and there were a couple of usual sites that could be connected like Picasa, facebook and flickr. Uploading data was easy and Corby remembers your passwords and at each login you are not prompted for credentials.
Music player is much like Samsung Jet and Star and one can’t expect too much of a difference. The music player lets you organize your tracks by artists, album, and genre. The application also has a dedicated home screen widget, which lets you access the application completely. The video player is acceptable and isn’t really very pleasing and supports all the basic functionalities. Camera is 2 mpx, and doesn’t really have very big features; in fact as already mentioned there isn’t an auto-focus mode.
On the whole the phone has nothing very unique but at the same time is expected to play a good role among the tween and teen group especially the girls. Camera, MP3 player, capacitive touchscreen, neat user interface and distinct design are enough to seal the deal. A loyal user might always find Corby comfortable to handle.
