Camera phones have always been not very successful, either due to their night mode or toll less details could b captured or because the video shoot is bad. It was always a tough time for buyers to choose amongst camera models. Samsung has come up with its new camera model “Samsung Memoir” with an 8mpx camera, and a beautifully designed detailed screen.
Good: Detailed screen; solid touchscreen; easy, powerful camera
Bad: Delayed touchscreen; sluggish Internet
The phone is about 4’’X2’’ with a thickness of half-an-inch. It comes with
sleeky black color with silver trimming on the edges, a little similar to Omnia. But unlike, Omnia the phone weighs about 5 ounces reminding one of just holding a camera. There is nothing to flip, since the phone is complete touchscreen, there has been no additional keypad provided. In the front panel along with the display are the three usual buttons, Call Connect, Call Disconnect, and Menu. Left side of the phone has provisions for headphones and USB, where the volume rockers, camera controller are placed on the right along with a phone lock button and a round, defined picture button.
The back and front are almost clear; except for at the back one can see the lens which gives you the exact look of a digital camera. Since Samsung managed to replace its keypad with complete touchscreen like iPhone, it has now relatively become easy to use the phone. Drag and Drop feature has well been designed. The Samsung Memoir is a GSM phone, quad-band 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz, are the features of GSM that are available. But the internet is unbearably very slow, whereas the Bluetooth appears to be much better.
Memoir pack itself is very small and comes only with three additional components like headphones, USB cord, wall plug and the rest of the box is dedicated to the user manual booklet. There are still a number of confusions that remain intuitively in this model too, like icons aren’t clear, depicting their usage properly. The touchscreen response is sort of okay, not too fast or not too slow. The 8 megapixel pictures can then instantly be uploaded to Flickr, Kodak Gallery, Photobucket, Snapfish or your own T-Mobile “My Album Online.”
Samsung must look forward to increase its offerings to the users, since any normal user can easily judge that the Memoir is not a real big phone, and there is nothing special in the phone except its 8mpx.
