competitionThe Rate war for SMSes now begins in India. Today RCOM unveiled two new SMS plans. RCOM GSM and CDMA subscribers will get “unlimited SMS plan” by subscribing to this plan @ Rs.1 per day. In second plan one will get Rs. 0.01 per SMS  by subscribing tariff voucher of Rs.11 per month. Just to compare 5000 SMSes will cost you just USD 1.The new tariffs are add-on plans and applicable to both pre-paid and post-paid customers.

At present, The average SMS rate in India is between 40 paise and 60 paise per message and the lowest SMS rates given by TATA DOCOMO which charges 1 paisa per character.RCom also aiming at new customers from high SMS usage groups of the GSM community, such as young professionals and youth across India. It will also benefit to RCOM when number portability will come in India.

The RCom move is expected to be followed by other operators. The rate war began with the per-second pulse billing started by Tata DOCOMO, soon followed by other operators.
