24 Jun 10 Symbian to be replaced by Meego in high-end Nokia handsets

MeeGo OS

MeeGo OS

Nokia has decided to use MeeGo instead of Symbian OS for manufacturing  smartphones. Nokia’s N8 will be the last phone of nokia which will be having Symbian operating system. All the smartphones after Nokia N8 will be having MeeGo as its operating system. Now Symbian will be used for all the X and E series handsets. Though Symbian has a rich history as Nokia’s flagship operating system, it just can’t compete with Android and iOS, which are now moving into larger devices such as tablets and netbooks. This has made necessary for Nokia to shift to MeeGo to challenge other platforms like Android and iOS. Also Nokia is going to concentrate exclusively on the software area and is preparing the developers for getting in touch with MeeGo. The Finnish Company Executive was quoted saying that they would differ from the Apple-esque approach, but will hold developer’s summits to launch new handsets on a proper platform. Also they plan to concentrate more on software part which was evident from the handset figures launched. Nokia had launched 35 handsets in the first quarter of 2010 while it has launched only 22 handsets in this quarter!

The Nokia N9 will be the first of the N-Series that will be running the MeeGo operating system. We would love to have your views and inputs on Nokia’s Meego. :)
