03 Oct 09 Nokia joins Wireless Power Consortium (WPC)

You will soon see mobiles from the finnish giant Nokia with wireless charging capabilities as seen in the Palm Pre and the Dell Lattitude Z. In what would be a step towards the smartphone dominance which Nokia is sure to attain someday, this would be a good weapon in the armory.

The Wireless Power Consortium was designed to bring a standard to wireless charging. When members sign up they agree to use a standard so that their devices can be charged on other members mats and vice versa.  [GA]

As more and more cos signup for this collaborative approach, we can one day hope to charge our gadgets over the air just as we consumer WiFi.
